In the world of the automobile, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems have become a must-have for all new cars and for autonomous driving. Manufacturers are developing ever more efficient radars to ensure a better, safer drive. In this race for the best radar, Aptiv faces competition from Continental, Veoneer, ZF, Valeo, Bosch, Mando, Denso and Ainstein.

Aptiv uses a dedicated technology that it has already used in previous versions, following a strategy of technical differentiation from its competitors.

The short-range radar sensor, with its two transmitters and four receiver channels, operates in the 76-77 GHz frequency band that is standard for automotive radar applications.

Aptiv stands out from its competitors by using bare Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) dies and cavity waveguides. Infineon 76GHZ SiGe MMICs are used as the high-frequency transmitter and receiver. The Radio Frequency (RF) Printed Circuit Board (PCB) substrate uses glass-reinforced hydrocarbon ceramic laminate, and is completely PTFE free.

Based on a complete teardown analysis of the Aptiv radar, the report provides the bill-of-material (BOM) and the manufacturing cost of the radar sensor. The report also includes a physical analysis of the Microcontroller Unit (MCU), a complete cost analysis and selling price estimation.
